O’s Notes: Heather is one of Canada’s top jazz vocalists and a true entertainer with exacting tone and pitch. Kelly Jefferson (sax), Eric St. Laurent (g), Ross MacIntyre (b), Ben Wittman (d, perc) and Chase Sanborn (flugelhorn) are the core band with Adrean Farrugia and Michael Shand splitting piano duties. There are thirteen tracks that combine jazz with popular music showing Heather’s reach to various audiences. Highlights are “It’s Beautiful”, “Bridges” and “Fine State of Affairs” featuring Carlos del Junco on harmonica. There are no disappointments on Fine State, a solid collection of contemporary jazz vocals.
