O’s Notes: Ellen has an inviting voice that is mesmerizing at times. She sings in front of a fine band including Leroy Williams (d), Charles Davis (sax) and Walter Booker (b). The program includes nine selections with varied tempos. Ellen is very melodic and complimented well by musical director/pianist Burt Eckoff especially on “Tomorrow”. We also liked her arrangements of “Sophisticated Lady” with a sweet solo from Davis, and “You Two”.
