O’s Notes: Roni is a jazz guitarist, educator and student of his instrument. He teams up with the late Ronnie Mathews (p), Rufus Reid (b), Lewis Nash (d) and Steve Kroon (perc). The program is varied with “The Intimacy of the Blues”, Cole Porter’s “Were Thine That Special Face” and Jobim’s “So Tinha De Ser Com Voce”. Ben-Hur plays the burning passages almost effortlessly with lots of poise. He adds a couple of originals that pop notably “Guess Who” rounding out a strong set.
