O’s Notes: Brian Landrus plays baritone sax and makes it mellow on “Ask Me Now” the opening track, a swinger that leads us to a warm set. That is the lone cover among eight originals. Brian also plays bass clarinet and alto flute. The darker tone of these instruments pushes the mood of Forward to the darker side and at times they drift into free space as on “Shadows”. We preferred the glimmering freshness of “To Love And Grow” and the swinging groove of “Classification”. The band is a brass rich octet including bassist John Lockwood and George Garzone on tenor sax.
