O’s Notes: Kevin opens with a calypso beat on “A Mere Bow” that is welcoming. This theme surfaces again in the session that includes a wide variety of mellow and relaxing songs. Dorsey wrote all of the tunes. The band is Jerry Bower (congas), Bob Piorun (g), Bill Pomares (ts & fl), Stein Rimehaug (p) and Dorsey (b). Stein and Bill sit out on a few numbers to make it a quartet. We were most impressed when they stayed on the straight-ahead groove with the title track, “Two Steps Away” and the aforementioned opener.
