O’s Notes: Karate is a contemporary free jazz quartet featuring Guillaume Orti (sax), Benot Delbecq (p), Hubert DuPont (b) and Stéphane Galland (d). Each of them except the drummer contributes at a few original compositions. This eclectic set is heavily syncopated and free flowing but not so far off the beaten path to alienate listeners. “X”, “Gazzell”, “XYZ” and “Never Rain” are our favorites.
