O’s Notes: Eric Vloeimans is a Dutch trumpeter with a passion for jazz-fusion. Gatecrash is his band, a quartet with Jeroen van Vliet (keyboards), Gulli Gudmundsson (b) and Jasper van Hulten (d). These thirteen selections are all original composed by band members mostly Vloeimans. The program ranges from funky dance tunes like “Maceo” to more reflective transcendental pieces like “Hymn From Snow”. Eric shows his versatility as well with soothing melodies on “Floratone”. van Vliet uses the Rhodes to bring a retro feel to several tracks. They majority of the session are relaxed, sometimes spacey and generally reflective songs. Gatecrash enjoys the possibilities afforded by the open canvas of jazz and they use it to effectively express their passions.
