O’s Notes: Pianist Manuel Valera is no stranger to the Latin Jazz scene having spent the last 15 years in New York and performing with a who’s who in the industry. In Motion is his 9th album as a leader and it has all of the syncopated elements we’ve come to expect from Valera. The music is all-original and the band is his New Cuban Express, a polished unit that is totally sync’ with Manuel. Yosvany Terry (sax), Alex Sipiagin (t), Ludwig Afonso (d) and Mauricio Herrera (perc) standout on numerous occasions during the set. Our favorites are “Bantu” and “NYC”.
