O’s Notes: When Ken Peplowski blows his clarinet the music swings! Ken combines two studio sessions for In Search Of… The first was recorded in 2007 with Chuck Redd (vibes), Greg Cohen (b) and Joe Ascione (d, perc). The second session is with Jeff Hamilton (d), Shelley Berg (p) and Tom Kennedy (b). This more recent session produces nine of the twelve tracks. They open with “The Thespian” and we know we are in for a treat. Ken and company don’t disappoint us with everyone getting into the spotlight at some point. “Peps” is a fine example of the shared stage and on this date it is ultimately Ken’s show and this is a treat.
