O’s Notes: Matthew is new on the jazz scene and after listening to In This Present Moment, we are happy to have him. The groove is a cool fusion led by Von Doran on guitar and accompanied by a wealth of strong talent including Terri Lyne Carrington (d), Larry Goldings (organ), Darek Oleszkiewicz (b) and producer Jimmy Haslip (b). While all of Matt’s compositions were good, we really enjoyed “Swang”, “Measure Once”, “Cable” and “Critical Mass” with synchronized melodies between Matthew, Bob Mintzer (sax) and Roger Burn (vibes).
