O’s Notes: This is collaboration between pianist Sumi Tonooka and saxophonist Erica Lindsay. They each contribute five compositions to the set, a collection of swinging modern jazz. They add bassist Rufus Reid and the late drummer Bob Braye to form a dynamic quartet. Tonooka’s work shows the influence of Monk. Her interaction with Reid is solid on “In The Void”. But the focal interplay is between the headliners and their relationship is very complementary. It comes through softly on “The Gift” and more pronounced on “Yes”, two examples of the fine work on this set.
