O’s Notes: The name of the band is a strong hint! The Big Crazy New York Band is a powerful, highly energetic large ensemble that you won’t doze off on. The strength of 13 brass musicians is unmistakable. Deb Lyons softens things singing “Seasons Wander”. We liked the hot blues of “Boone Dog Café” and the cool vibe of “Out Of The Night”, a real swinger. They settle down on “Ear Trumpet”, the start of a more relaxed second half. Lyons returns with vocalese on “I Know, Later” giving more variety to a solid encounter.
