O’s Notes: Guitarist Bollenback teams up with Randy Brecker (t), Ed Howard (b), Victor Lewis (d) and Chris McNulty (vocals). They open with Randy and Paul sharing the melody on “Dancing Leaf”, a cool fusion tune. “Alter Ego” features McNulty scatting alongside of Paul for one of the best tunes of the set. We also liked the relaxed pace of “Emily”. Bollenback is a fine guitarist and he shines as a player on “Everything Must Change” and as a composer having written four of the nine tunes here. He’s able to share the stage extracting large sound from his small ensemble.
