O’s Notes: Pianist and conductor Lalo Schifrin presents the seventh in his Jazz Meets The Symphony Series. It features the Czech National Symphony Orchestra with several notable soloists. They perform original and classic arrangements in grand splendor. The program includes a wide range of styles including the percussion and orchestral dialogue on the title track, some mild boss’s nova on “Trombone Fantasy” and the grand swing of Ellington’s “Groovin’ High”. There is also some medieval music, dark ballads and the centerpiece of the set, “tude on Rhythm” a 16+ minute dynamic composition accentuated but precision and strings around a swinging rhythm. Again Schifrin delivers a strong effort.
