O’s Notes: LaTanya has a full, rich voice and style that reminds us of Nancy Wilson. But Hall has her own signature and is well accomplished on the NY music scene. She was the lead for the touring company of Dream Girls. It’s About Time is her first solo album and it has been worth the wait. LaTanya sings in front of a large ensemble including strings that is conducted by Angelo DiPippo. His arrangements of the 12 covers are very unique and refreshing. David Mann is one of several featured soloists adding special touches. Hall soars with confidence on “The Nearness of You” and “You Don’t Know What Love Is” then sooths us in Spanish on “Sabor a Mi”, a few highlights in a strong set. Our favorite was “A Lazy Afternoon”.
