O’s Notes: Larry Fuller plays piano and leads a trio with bassist Hassan Shakur and Greg Hutchinson on drums. This self-titled release captures the swinging spirit of the late Ray Brown. Each of the musicians on the recording had a connection to Ray and together they dial up a large order of home cooking that is spirited by Fuller’s vibrant work on the keys. It is not at all breakneck speed and they relax the tempo on tunes like “Hymn to Freedom”, “Close Enough For Love” and “Reflections in D”. Simply stated, this is a well-balanced performance fueled with high octane gas!
