O’s Notes: Stryker (g) and Slagle (sax) are back with another winning hand. The combination sax and guitar melodies on songs like “Latest Outlook” give this session an incredibly cool, fusion feel. The melodies are syncopated and clean with nice changes of pace mirrored by bassist Jay Anderson who walks, runs and even gets funky where appropriate. The meter changes as well with “Hartland” and the cool blues of “Dear Mr. Hicks” on a more relaxed pace. It is very good stuff. Timekeeper, Billy Hart anchors the project and guest artist Joe Lovano (sax) spices up a couple of tracks to cap a fine session.
