O’s Notes: Dena warms up the Jazz Standard audience quickly with a rousing rendition of “Speak Low” which also showcases the supporting musicians. The band includes Martin Wind on bass, drummer Matt Wilson and DeRose playing piano, a unit that has been together for many years. They turned Philippe Petruccianni’s “Why” into “This Is Love” with lyrics written by DeRose. The program remains intense through nine gems. We liked this performance, as did the crowd that night.
