O’s Notes: This is a duet with pianist Makoto Ozone and leader, trombonist Phil Wilson. It is a live session that was captured at The Berklee Performance Center November 2, 1982. Ozone is the 21-year-old student from Kobe, Japan. Phil is the accomplished professor at the renowned music institution. Wilson’s dexterity on his instrument is excellent as he trades the melody with Ozone on “Stella By Starlight”. Ozone displays an amazing command and control of the piano on “Rainy Day” and throughout the session. They play five classics in a cool cat and mouse style along with Wilson’s own “These Are The Days”. We enjoyed the swing of “Blues my Naughty Sweetie Gave To Me”. The pair delighted this very critical audience in what was truly a stellar performance.
