O’s Notes: Japanese guitarist Nobuki Takamen leads a quartet with John Lenis (b), Hitoshi Kanda (p) and Yutaka Uchida (d). They recorded this live set at the Iridium in New York during July 2009. They perform six of Takamen’s originals, all well-developed songs. They really cook on “14-1” and “One Big Shot” a showcase for Kanda. They also play a couple of ballads to balance the set. Nobuki and his team are off to a good start.
