O’s Notes: Jimmy Amadie is a pianist with a miraculous story of survival. He is a man who worked his hands beyond exhaustion, and was forced to step away from his successful career for many decades before re-emerging with a vengeance. In 2008 he was diagnosed with lung cancer but has persisted to record this Live concert at The Philadelphia Museum of Art. He is facing the realities of his illness now but not before delivering a formidable work of art. Amadie is much more than a sympathy case. He (and his band) delivers yet one more strong performance that will resonate with the jazz community.
