O’s Notes: Matt (sax, cl) leads a free flowing trio with bassist Dave Ambrosio and drummer Russ Meissner. They play off of each other’s lead on ten loosely structured tunes, all originals composed by Renzi. “Happy Hour” seems to never get started but we easily engaged in “Pula Paradise” a warm ballad with Matt playing clarinet and Anderson bowing his bass. We also liked “School’s Out”. The songs have a structure that fosters improvisation. They also use lengthy solo introductions that allow appreciation of the individual musicians. It’s an eclectic mix.
