O’s Notes: Saxophonist Jim Snidero forms a new quartet for Main Street, his fifth recording as a leader on Savant. Bassist Linda Oh, drummer Rudy Royston and pianist Fabian Almazan join him for eight selections including five new originals. Replacing guitarist Paul Bollenback with Almazan changes the character of the mix adding a mild dose of Afro-Cuban flavor. The new unit is tight and comfortable enough with each other for uninhibited soloing, notably Oh’s opening to “The Streets of Lareda”. Snidero shines on “Born in Redwood City” our favorite in a very good set.
