O’s Notes: Vente is one of the Windy City’s best jazz pianists. He has led many configurations of bands from a lounge duo to a large ensemble. Among the best is Brazilian-based Tropicale. Vente forms two distinct trios for this CD. Scott Mason (b) and Isi Perez (d) play traditional bebop while Jim Batson (b) and Luiz Ewerling (d) add a Latin vibe. While there is some overlap, the music is fresh and invigorating. “Black Circle” and “A Bill Evans Tune For RA” are just a couple of highlights in a strong set. This is our first exposure too a new concept aimed at bringing the best jazz to enthusiasts. Chicago Sessions focuses exclusively on Chicago based musicians and their original works. It is available by subscription only: one CD/month. This could be the start of something wonderful. Details at www.ChicagoSessions.com
