O’s Notes: These two consummate performers, Pat on guitar and Brad on piano pair up for ten new original compositions. The music is predominantly pleasant, peaceful duets. They expand the band to a quartet with Larry Grenadier (b) and Jeff Ballard (d) on “Ring of Life”, and “Say the Brother’s Name”, both more upbeat numbers. Mehldau and Metheny have a mutual admiration that fuels their collaboration. The results are fresh, new enjoyable sounds that we found very enjoyable.
