O’s Notes: Sara Serpa is a modern jazz-fusion singer, making her voice a part of the band. Ben Street (b) Andre Matos (g), Kris Davis (p) and Ted Poor (d) join her to perform a set of ten mostly original compositions. The work was inspired by her favorite authors including Homer, Steinbeck and Melville. The common theme is adventure and discovery. Mobile is an engaging translation of those ideas in Serpa’s mind and expressed through her voice. The best examples are “Sequuoia Gigantism”, “Ulysses’s Costume”, “Sem Razão” and the harmonizing of “City of Light, City of Darkness” making this an enjoyable listening experience.
