O’s Notes: Paul presents an anthology, a retrospective of the Paul Winter Consort. There are sixteen of the best songs selected from nine albums recorded by the legendary group. They combine classical instrumentation with pop and jazz melodies to create a beautiful landscape. There are vocals and varied tempos to continuously capture the listener’s attention. Don Grusin (p), Oscar Castro-Neves (g), Eugene Friesen (cello) and Paul Winter (sax) are just a few of the celebrated musicians on the album. The melody exchange between oboe and cello on “Bright Angel” is seamless! This is undoubtedly the sweetest presentation of oboe that we’ve encountered for quite some time.
