O’s Notes: This is an unusual blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms, neobop, jazz-fusion and free jazz. Sosa not only blends the Latin elements but the musicians as well to arrive at a session that has a wide range of dynamics, varied tempos and a unique sound. We were tapping our feet to the cool beats of “Nuevo Manto” and “La Tra” then meditating on the relaxed “La Llamada”. There is a lot of spirit and smooth interaction between the musicians, a unique amalgamation that is pleasing.
