O’s Notes: Mumpbeak is a progressive jazz-fusion band featuring Roy Powell (keyboards), Pat Mastelotto (d, perc) and four different bassists mainly Bill Laswell and Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz. Bill and Shanir play together on five selections. There is an abundance of distortion and electronics in this layered, syncopated episode. Our favorite was the raging guitars on “Nork” amidst a space-aged amalgamation of tunes.
