O’s Notes: Judi’s voice is deep, rich and warm and it we discovered this less than a minute into the 1st track, “Tenderly”. That was the start to a wonderful program. She’s backed by Kenny Barron (p) who shines on “Up Jumped Spring” with Leroy Williams (d), Ray Drummond (b) and Frank Wess who shadows her on sax and flute throughout the set. These are all first call musicians who support a voice that you should definitely get to know. D.’s pitch and tone are excellent bringing a fresh joy to these covers that should put her on your buy list for jazz vocals.
