O’s Notes: Keyboardist and composer César Orozco was born in Cuba and moved to Venezuela at 18. He eventually moved to New York where he presents us with his third album as a leader No Limits For Tumbao. There is good variety from Orozco ranging from contemporary fusion to festive Latin beats rooted in his Cuban/Venezuelan roots. Most of the music was written by Orozco and accentuated by guest appearances from Paquito D’Rivera (s sax) and Yosvany Terry (s sax) along with others. D’Rivera’s work on “Jorozco” and Terry’s performance on “Galeron” are excellent and the tumbao on “Vladitimba” is locked! Vocalist Linda Briceño softens the set performing a duet with Orozco on “A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square”. Those are just a few examples in a myriad of strong selections.
