O’s Notes: Virginia plays sax. If you haven’t heard her, you should. The band, including pianist Kenny Barron with a tight rhythm section, is a well-integrated unit. They play four Mayhew compositions along with five complementary tracks. Trumpeter Ingrid Jensen and Virginia blend on many deep rich combinations. Bop, funky blues, some Latin and warm jazz make this a CD that we listened to repeatedly with pleasure.
