O’s Notes: Markus Schwartz (d, perc, vocals) was born in Denmark surrounded by American jazz. He has devoted the last 2 decades studying Haitian drum music leading to his participation in numerous Haitian jazz projects. Monvelyno Alexis (g, vocals) is from Port-au-Prince, Haiti. He developed his musical process starting with Gospel and progressing through jazz and voodoo music full of chants and percussion. Nou La (We Are Here) features both artists sharing the rich Haitian rhythms, a different Caribbean experience and one worth sampling.
