O’s Notes: Erika’s Japanese accent gives an exotic feel to traditional American love songs. She sings several Brazilian classics as well, notably “Chega de Saudade”. We enjoyed the bouncy groove on “Samurai” and “Moondance”. Erika employs a strong cast of musicians including Willard Dyson (d), Nanny Assis (perc) and Freddie Bryant (g). Pianist Carlton Holmes does a fine job as well, especially on “I Could Have Told You”. Erika wraps up the set with two originals that fit nicely into the program.
