O’s Notes: The Olavi Trio is drummer Niilo Olavi Louhivuori, bassist Teppo Olavi Hauta-aho and trombonist Jari Olavi Hongisto. We did a double take and sure enough, each of these Finnish musicians shares the same middle name, hence the group name! They play an eclectic mix that spans a full range of emotions. The use of air and space on “Kalle Killi” fosters a great deal of interplay between the musicians typifying the thirteen selections. This is at times chaotic but grew on us as we listened.
