O’s Notes: Old Friends and New Friends is the reunification of pianist David Berkman with drummer Brian Blade and producer Matt Balitsaris from his early recordings at Palmetto. He invited some trusted friends Billy Drewes (sax) and Adam Kolker (sax, cl, fl) along with new stars Linda Oh (b) and Dayna Stephens (sax) to record these fresh originals again on Palmetto! While many elements are the same, the sound is more mature and in step with modern jazz in 2015. Berkman’s evolution is relevant and promising.
