O’s Notes: Yaala sings jazz with strong influences from Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington. She hits her stride on “Three Little Words” before convincingly belting out “Evil Gal Blues/Salty Papa Blues”. We also enjoyed her take on “More Than You Know” and “Long Gone Blues/Wise Woman Blues”. The more we listened the more we enjoyed Yaala’s phrasing and style. She is shadowed by Zaid Nasser (as) and Chris Byars (ts) with Vahagn Hayrapertyan (p), Ari Roland (b) and Keith Balla (d) anchoring the rhythms.
