O’s Notes: Open Road is Kenneth Rice (sax, keys), Paul Pierce (d, g, perc, keys), Buddy Mercer (g, b, banjo) and Rick Dunham (b, g, banjo). They play pop-based smooth jazz. There is a bit of a honky-tonk beat on “Susie Q” and “Seven”, some soft vocals on “I Want You Back”, and a little romance on “Time For Love”. We liked the mid tempo funk on “Feelin’ Alright” best in this contemporary pop jazz set.
