O’s Notes: We were halfway through the first track when we put down our pen, reclined and settled down to just take in the music. This performance consists of the collaborative efforts of drummer/percussionists Pete Lockett and Bill Bruford. The other members of this 5-Piece Network of Sparks are Simon Limbrick on marimba and midi mallets, Nana Tsiboe on African drums and Johnny Kalsi on North Indian folk drums. There is a wealth of African and Indian percussion layered in beautiful patterns with the more traditional drum set. The vocalese on “Voices Apart” is in synch with the theme. You may not expect an album featuring only percussion and drums to be so musical but Locket and his team pull it off.
