O’s Notes: We got two boxed sets with five CDs each of original Dave Brubeck recordings. It is a part of Sony’s “Music Made Simple” collections. The first set features 48 songs by the Quartet on Time Out, Countdown, Time Further Out, Time Changes and Time In. Time is the operative word for Brubeck, a true master of any time signature. Many times the band played on multiple meters! The second box contains Brubeck Plays Brubeck, Brandenburg Gate, Gone With The Wind, Jazz Goes to College and Jazz Impressions of New York. There are 41 gems here that further highlight the lengthy career of Brubeck. Our summary: wow! These sets reestablish Dave Brubeck as a living legend!
