O’s Notes: The world famous saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera leads a star studded large ensemble that includes Andy Narell (steel drums), Dave Samuels (vibes), Hector del Curto (bandoneon) and Diego Urcola (t). They perform a live session focused on the many Afro centric sounds of Pan-American jazz. Paquito wrote five of the eight selections. Of note are “Prelude No. 3” featuring Curto and “Tojo” with strong brass highlighted by D’Rivera. The title track features vocalist Brenda Feliciano and incorporates elements of milonga, danzón, cha cha, bossa nova, joropo and reggae. Our favorite was “Serenade” written by Carlos Franzetti.
