O’s Notes: Pianist Herzig leads a fine ensemble through thirteen Holiday classics. These arrangements are very fresh with both fusion and straight ahead jazz elements infused into the spirits. There are a few vocal tracks but this is mostly warm instrumentals like “This Little Light of Mine” featuring Tom Clark (sax). Peter Kienle (g) puts a fusion element into “Happy Xmas” and “Go Tell it On The Mountain” while violinist Carolyn Dutton takes us in a different ride for three songs notably their subtle, swinging version of “Silent Night”. We are sorry we missed it in time for the 2009 Christmas season but this is good listening year round! Be sure to save it for next December’s festive moments. We added it to our Holiday hard drive!
