O’s Notes: Pianist Alex Brown puts together a fine program of modern jazz-fusion with seven originals and two covers. We enjoyed the syncopated rhythms of “The Wrong Jacket”; the playful Latin beats of “Lamentos” featuring Paquito D’Rivera on clarinet and the heavily syncopated “Elektric” with a pulsating bass solo by Ben Williams. Vivek Patel (t) and D’Rivera (sax) do a fine job on this album highlighting the moments through all tempos while Brown keeps it all together on the keys injecting excerpts of brilliance along the way. This young pianist has a long runway.
