O’s Notes: This was Michael’s last recording and he made it an all-star effort with guitarist Pat Metheny, John Patitucci on bass and drummer Jack DeJohnette. Herbie Hancock and Brad Mehldau split duty on the piano. Brecker wrote all of the music and co-produced the CD as well. “Anagram” really pops courtesy of a really hip bass line with Pat and Michael handling the melody. Brecker is soaring on “Tumbleweed”, a high intensity number before they take it down several notches for the romance of “When Can I Kiss You Again?”. There is a lot to like on this session.
