O’s Notes: Who better to play romantic ballads than Stan Getz? His warn tones were a part of his signature sound that made him very popular. Though he taught at Stanford late in his career, he was quick to point out that he was an untrained musician, playing what he heard, what he felt. Hence his translation of these nine ballads sets the mood for love. Among the best are “For All We Know”, with Cal Tjader on vibes, and “Lover Man” with the Bill Evans Trio.
