O’s Notes: Both Oliver Jones and Hank Jones are formidable pianists in their own right. Playing together, they are quite a treat! Jim Doxas (d) and Brandi Disterheft (b) join them for a combination of standards and original bebop tunes. They really swing on “Ripples” and capture the ragtime spirit on “Making Whoopee”. This session was recorded in Montreal shortly after the great Canadian pianist Oscar Peterson passed and so the session is dedicated to him as well as to the spirit of making good music. They are successful on both fronts especially on classics like “I’ll Remember April” and “Monk’s Mood”.
