O’s Notes: Take one look at the cover art featuring Lyn Stanley with a large hat and you know that this is a classy woman. Potions is her second album focused on songs from the 1950s. She not only looks the part but also delivers with a crisp, melodic and heartfelt delivery. Her accompaniment is varied all-star cast including bassist Mike Valero, drummer Joe LaBarbera, pianists Kenny Werner and Bill Cuneliffe. The songs are pop, blues and jazz ballads recorded all or in part on analogue tape with attention to details. We appreciated the effort and enjoyed this entertaining set.
