O’s Notes: The roster of musicians on“Prototype“is like a who’s who in contemporary jazz with bassists Jimmy Haslip & Nathan East, guitarists Paul Jackson Jr. & Chuck Loeb, Andy Snitzer on sax and legendary fusion keyboardist, leader Jeff Lorber. Yes, some of these cats are getting long in the tooth but they remain relevant, especially Lorber“who has a seemingly endless supply of new funky songs in his repertoire. Jeff composed all of the music except “Hidden Agenda”, collaboration with co-producer Jimmy Haslip. “What’s The Deal” reminded us of ToP’s hit “What Is Hip”. “Hyperdrive”, “The Badness” and “Vienna” are other highlights.
