O’s Notes: L is celebrating the music of the legendary Jimi Hendrix with ten of his most popular songs. Nguyn’s arrangements tilt the music into his own groove but he retains Jimi’s soul. Aida Khann, Corin Curschellas and drummer Terri Lynn Carrington add vocals on each of the songs. Aida’s vocals lift the spirits of “Manic Depression”. Michel Alibo plays bass complementing L’s take on Hendrix. Among the best tracks are “Purple Haze”, “If 6 Was 9” with Bojan Zulfokarpasic’s solo on the Fender Rhodes, and “Up From The Skies”. This is a great transformation of Jimi’s music into jazz-fusion even if you weren’t a Hendrix fan.
