O’s Notes: Pianist Leslie Pintchik performs in two quartets; one with Satoshi Takeishi (perc) the other with Steve Wilson (sax). Both are anchored with Scott Hardy (b) and Mark Dodge (d). The musicians play together regularly and they are tight. The music is a combination of originals and covers. Each is played with confidence. “Not So Fast” features Wilson and Pintchik sharing the melody with Hardy and Dodge contributing strong solos. The music is very dynamic without unnecessary gymnastics. Leslie plays as though she’s been recording forever. This is her sophomore release and it is an improvement on her strong debut. SACD
